URGENT! ┬áTime to apply is short! ┬áDon’t Delay!

Veteran’s Home Repair Application

The program will focus on health and safety repairs, and addressing accessibility issues within the homes of veterans in Lake County. This program is funded through a partnership between the Home Depot Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. An assessment will be made of the home’s condition to determine which repairs are within the scope of capabilities of Habitat for Humanity Lake County.

General Guidelines

  1. The qualifying household must own and live in their home for at least 5 years or be living in a permanent situation with a family member who is the homeowner and has owned the home for at least 5 years. Certain exceptions may apply.
  2. The household must qualify as low income per the HUD guidelines (see table below).
  3. Requirement of a payback loan based on ability to pay. Loan amount to be decided after inspection and calculation of ability to pay. Minimum amount of payment could be as low as $25.00 per month
  4. Applicant must have limited other assets, such as funds in bank accounts, money market funds, stock and bonds, personal property etc.
  5. Households that desire this service must fill out the application completely, and provide the necessary financial verification information. Applications that are incomplete or do not contain all necessary documentation will have the processing delayed.
  6. If an applicant passes the financial verification, a house visit will be made for the purpose of an assessment of the scope of the required repairs.
  7. Once the type and amount of repair work is determined, if it is within the capabilities of HFH Lake County, the organization will obtain necessary resources and schedule the repair efforts.

  1. I received the application for the Veterans Home Repair Program, and have the following questions:
I own my mobile home but it’s not on property that I also own. I’m in a Mobile Resort, have been here 10 years, and am welcome to stay for the rest of my life.
The application also states that the mobile must not be older than 1980. Mine is a 1974 Streamliner ” Imperial ” model.
Do these things disqualify me for a grant?
Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
    Sincerely,
    Ronald A Wright Jr.

    • In many cases, upon receipt of the application, Habitat for Humanity Lake County will assess the nature of the requested work and will send someone out to perform a visual inspection. The inspection report will be made available to pertinent Habitat staff and a decision will be made at that time. There are several factors that may still permit work to be done upon your home, so I would encourage you to submit the application.
